The Punk in Sight and Sound
Credits and review, Sight and Sound, October 1993, pages 49 to 50.
Lucy O’Brien reviewed the film for the October 1993 issue, with a synopsis and the full credits.
She set out how the film was made. Mike Sarne optioned Gideon Sams’ 1976 novel, re-mortgaged his house, borrowed £500,000 and found City backing. He shot the film with a small crew of former film students, all under 25.
She was not persuaded by the film’s picture of punk. She credited its “edgy, independent spirit and fine photography”, and singled out the slow-motion pool cue ‘sword fight’ and the mock-up rap dance between David and his friend. She wrote that the soundtrack was “sparse, knowing and funky”, composed mainly by the film’s “capable star”, Charlie Creed-Miles.
